Description
The HDZero Freestyle VTX is a digital HD 720p 60fps 5.8GHz made for freestyle drones. The large heatsink surrounding the VTX helps maintain a stable temperature from the increased transmission range. Mounts on standard 30x30mm spaced holes.
This is the new version that has 2-6S input.
The power input range is 2S –6S. Though the VTX integrates a surge protection circuit, a large capacitor (450+uF) parallel with battery leads is mandatory to smooth the power supply of the whole quad.
The VTX also includes an U.FL RHCP antenna.

Important Notes:
- Use 2S-6S VBAT, or FC with built-in BEC:
- The Freestyle VTX consumes up to 15W. If it is connected with FC that has built-in BEC output, make sure the BEC has enough current. For example, the BEC has 10V, it needs a minimum of 1.5A current output.
- Removing the heat sink is not recommended because it is part of the design.

I like NextFPV ; Now thats out the way, I purchased this over DJI stuff because I like the consistent firmware updates and support Divimath throw into their gear. I've just started to push distance with it and have been very happy with the outcomes so far. Running it with Ardupilot there were several gotcha moments (betaflight fonts, MSP vs CANVAS modes) which theres some good youtube videos that explain most of the dramas. Distance so far is pretty good - Pushed to around 2.5km line of sight before I pulled back due to fuzzy video. I'm doing long range payloads so video quality isnt as important to me ; If it was I'd probably have to say the DJI gear seems to be a little more crisp visually, but also a bit more latency (IMHO). Tip - If your slow flying/hovering/sitting around - 3D print yourself a little fan mount. It gets hot FAST.

I have placed this new freestyle version into a small FPV model. It has performed magnificently! The transmitted picture is clear, the range has doubled and the unit is easy to operate.

This is not a bad bit of gear. On full power (Max) it gave me flight around obstacles with minimal video break up whereas with my 200 mW analogue and 200mW HD Zero Whoop Vtx flight would have been impossible. It gets very hot very quickly so don’t delay arming and taking off. Alternatively use a remote operated switch either a stand alone Tiny LED’s unit or a FC with a pitched power output (of at least 15W capability) to operate the Vtx just before takeoff. I have previously trashed one of these because of a bent pin in the firmware upgrade socket. Be careful with the short cable which connects the Vrx to the Vtx. Insert it correctly, gently and fully into each socket.
